“Albino!” In some countries, when you are a little lighter than the norm, you can get called albino even if you’re not.
In primary school, I had a classmate who had light skin, green eyes and blond hair. Stupid kids from our small town used to call him albino simply because he wasn’t dark enough for them. In this specific case, would you consider the word “albino” to be a slur, just like the term “mongoloid“?
The website Under The Same Sun (an association founded by an albino), is full of links to articles on crimes committed against albinos. In some countries, they are accused of sorcery. In others, they always play the bad, evil and machiavelic guy in popular movies. No wonder many albinos feel unsure about their looks. Albinos are like any other group of individuals; some look prettier than others.
Looking at beauty under a different light
Last year, ABC reported the story of Angel Stillman, a 14-years old albino. Ignoring her family’s advice, Angel decided to pass for a regural white person by modifying her appearance. In fact, she only had to get her brows, eyebrows and hair colored to look different (see before and after piture below).
If she made the choice to blend in, some albinos continue to celebrate their difference in the limelight.
Here are three albino models with an overwhelming beauty and lots of audacity:
- Diandra Forrest, african-american
- Connie Chui, originary from China
- Stephen Thompson, Caucasian

2. Connie Chui
3. Stephen Thompson
Not every albino has the opportunity to be famous and admired like Diandra, Connie ou Stephens. Should they imitate Angel or accept themselves as they are?

These photos are amazing and the people are beautiful. People pay good money to get that platinum hair and striking eyes! There is something etheral looking about an Albino that can be frightening for some people. Personally, I’m fine with it. There are all sorts of pigmentation that makes for the human race. This is just another aspect.
As for this thing of passing for white, I find it sad because everyone should be able to live in their own skin, but if that person feels the need to do it in order to fit in, then who are we to judge? Perhaps in the fullness of time, as confidence grows, they will throw off that defensive coat and allow themselves to glow. After all, when you think of it, how many people out there are disguising their greying hair, balding head and so on. If hair dyes were abolished tomorrow, you’d be amazed at how many silver dudes and dudettes would be revealed, especially in the public eye.

Actually it’s'a bit akward to say she’s passing for white since that’s'what she trully is.
I think her need to look like everybody else is quite understandable. I have dyed my hair for the last 4-5 years so really, I can’t throw any stone at her.
I dyed my hair for fun but I find sad that someone has to change hair color just to be “accepted”.

I was struggling abit trying to figure the albino black woman or an albino? Asian? At least for the Asian woman I tried to figure out if she was ever dark haired in her lifetime.
It’s hard for any albino nowadays to be super motivated to colour their hair, etc. when actually looking avant-garde is fashionable. If they could only see it that way.
How the world turns..on a hair.
in the minds of some folks. I haven’t dyed/coloured my hair yet in my life…just turned 52 recently.

I agree that Diandra, the Black albino looks like any other light-skinned, mixed-race girl the way her hair and make-up is done. She’s very edgy though.
Connie Chui is the one that fascinates me the most because I had never thought Asian albino existed even though I was Well aware there are albinos in all races.
Good thing you’ve never dyed your hair. I have not seen my natural color in years and everybody prefers my new hair color. I started bleaching because I felt the need to be different and though my life has dramatically changed the past few years, I realized I’m still thé same. Angel will probably reached the same conclusion soon…

Albinos are beautiful, then again anything that is outside the norm is great to see, view and behold to me personally. Love the positive light you have shed here, in a world for of color the one with the least shines the brightest for several reasons.
The before and after photo of Angel Stillman is amazing she truely does look like another person. People can be so mean especially kids so if any of them have or want to change their look, its totally understandable why anybody would want to.
